Valentine's Day Reimagined: Love Is More Than Romance

Discard the notion that February 14th is the only day dedicated to love. Let's honor the common magic of love in all its manifestations this month.  The days of "I love you" being merely three overused phrases are long gone. Like time, true love is a continuous stream that is demonstrated by deeds rather than words. It strengthens bonds with loved ones, close friends, pets, and even inanimate objects by bridging the gap between words and deeds.

I saw the beauty of this reality come to light on Valentine's Day this year. Students exchanging gifts and expressing their gratitude filled the school hallways, not just with the smiles of couples but also with all the happy faces. We sang instructors happy songs and celebrated as a class, radiating happiness.

But when he got home, the real high point happened. Love wasn't limited to romantic gestures during family get-togethers and birthday parties for my mother. The joy, the stories told, and the coziness of the group all incorporated it.

I've learned from this experience that love isn't just for romantic partnerships. It's a language that is expressed through the little things in life that bring us the most joy: bright grins, loud laughs, and unsaid understanding. Let's transcend the manufactured concept of love this Valentine's Day. Let's honor the common gestures that genuinely capture the spirit of love, such as lending a helping hand, lending a sympathetic ear, or sharing a good laugh.
